# Droidian - Linux on Android Phones

Droidian Linux has emerged as a new player in the Linux phone arena!

Droidian takes the Mobian project and runs it on the 9, 10, 11, and soon 12 Android Linux kernels, instead of the mainline Linux kernel Mobian normally runs on.

This is similar to what Ubuntu Touch is doing. It is so similar that the UBPorts installer, used to install Ubuntu Touch, also has Droidian as an alt. install option for supported phones (see 2nd image)

Running Linux on an Android kernel is great because you can now run "Linux" on phones, such a $100 Pixel 3a, but for the moment Droidian mostly supports Linux first phones, such as the Volla or F(x)tec Pro 1.

Many things on Droidian phones don't work quite yet, but they say everything is working on the Pixel 3a ecept MMS and dual SIMs. Nonetheless, Droidian is a project worth keeping an 👀 on.
