There is no need to use Telegram or WhatsCrapp!

Did you know that you can host your own private chats with Nextcloud. That's right. All your personal chats with your family on a computer that YOU control. A computer that neither Big Tech nor Big Brother can access.

For the best privacy, you may want to avoid getting the app from an Apple or Google app store. They'll probably read the keyboard, screen, camera, microphone, or whatever.

Make sure to use a De-Googled phone and only use the F-Droid version of the app. However, the notifications will NOT work unless you have the Google app store version, since Google push notifications is the only option they develop into this app. 🙁😢

You can install NextcloudServices ahead have that poll every 5-10 seconds:

You will need to set up an additional TURN or coTURN server if you want to do phone/video calls between two phones, which is a headache, but it is possible to get it working eventually.

### Nextcloud Hosting Options

Nextcloud is an open-source online ecosystem that you can use isntead of Google, Apple, or Microsoft, to keep all of your data private, secure, & out of the hands of Big Tech & out of the hands of Big Government.

This post list some Nextcloud options below.

>Note: Out of all of the options below, Cloudamo is the best option for people who aren't super techie, but want the ability to customize their own Nextcloud.

A Brief List of Nextcloud Options:
(There are many, many more Nextcloud options)

1. Pay For a Nextcloud Service Provider. You pay the Nextcloud provider money, and they DO NOT sell your data to anyone and everyone. If you go this route, you are stuck with whatever Nextcloud apps they install, and cannot customize your Nextcloud.

- eCloud/Murena, a French company that offers a free account w/free email, up to 1Gig.
- LibertyStratus, a conservative Patriotic company out of Arizona.

2. Host Nextcloud on Someone Else's Server (VPS)

- Cloudamo - Company out of Switzerland, with servers in the USA. You 100% control what gets installed on your Nextcloud.
- Linode/Akamai & DigitalOcean are some of the most commonly used hosts for this.
- With Linode and Digital Ocean you can do full disk encryption. This creates even more headache.
- Note: Even with full disk encryption, your Nextcloud VPS provider can still see your data if they really want to by doing a physical memory dump of the server hardware to get your VPS full disk encryption key.

3. Host Nextcloud on Your Own Hardware at Home. Self-Hosting on your own hardware is the ideal situation. Nobody can get their hands on your server without going through you.

Need to collect information from people, such as taking a survey, or getting people to sign-up for a soccer team?

All you do is search for "Forms" in your Nextcloud apps, install and enable. You will see the icon appear up top.

Share Cookbook w/Other Users and Sync Across Devices

The Nextcloud Cookbook app is a recipe app that does a great job, plus it synchronizes your recipes across all devices & OS.

If you don't have a Nextcloud server, but want to try it out, Murena.io is free Nextcloud/email service that offers the Nextcloud Cookbook app in their "Experimental" section.

### Nextcloud Cookbook Options:
- Works in any browser
- An F-Droid Android app is available

Here are some of the features Cookbook offers:

- Adds recipes automatically, just paste in the URL of the recipe. (sometimes doesn't work on smaller sites, but works surprisingly well overall)

- Ingredients can be checked off, like a shopping list.

- Timers for cook times.

- Instruction steps can be checked off.

- Works in browsers, which is good for Linux phones.

- You can share your Nextcloud Recipe folder with others such as your spouse.

Planned upcoming features:
- Integrate Cookbook into your Nextcloud Calendar for meal planning.
- Shopping list

To sync your cookbook between phone and comuter, install the Nextcloud Cookbook in your Nextcloud apps section, and the Cookbook app for Android. (available on F-Droid)

LibreOffice Office Suite for Android & Nextcloud

Collabora is based on LibreOffice, and let's you collaborate with others over your Nextcloud. It also syncs document edits between your laptop your DeGoogled phone over your Nextcloud.

John in our Discussion Channel brought to our attention the official F-Droid repository for the Collabora Office Suite.

This repository is an easy way to install and auto update Collabora Office without using Google's spyware app store.

The repository can be found 👉 here.

On the website, you take a screenshot of the QR code, and then send the image to your QR code reader app, where you need to copy the info to your clipboard. (Barcode Scanner can do this)

Then you open F-Droid, and go to
- —> Settings
- —> Repositories
- —> + (in the upper right)

That should bring up a window with info from the clipboard already auto-populated in the text boxes. You click OK and it will add the Collabora repository.

After that, you refresh the repositories, search for Collabora and install.

### Using Your Own Nextcloud

Better than a Big Tech sync account!

Using Nextcloud & the Nextcloud Bookmarks app, you can synchronize bookmarks across ALL your devices, & across ALL your web browsers, as long as there is a floccus add-on extension available for your browser.

1. Install the Nextcloud Bookmarks app onto your Nextcloud Server.
a. Set up the Bookmarks
folder you want to use for
bookmarks, such as
/Bookmarks

2. Install the flocuss add-on extension into your web browser(s).
- Chromium based use this add-on
- Firefox based use this add-on

3. Once flocuss is installed in your browser:

a. In the floccus add-on,
sign into your Nextcloud
account, & set the
Nextcloud Bookmarks
folder. (i.e. /Bookmarks)

b. Tell the add-on which
browser bookmark location to
use. You can drag & drop
elsewhere later.

4. On Android install the floccus app, and sign it into your Nextcloud using your Nextcloud account. Bookmarks will sync to the floccus app, not the browsers.
