Airdrop for Android

(Share files with any other device regardless if it's Apple, Microsoft, phone or computer.)

LocalSend (localsend.org) is an open source, cross-platform file sharing app that makes file sharing a breeze, as long as all devices have access to the same local network, either though WiFi or through a wired connection.

LocalSend boasts these features:

- Cross-Platform (Linux, Android, Apple, MS)
- Send files to mutiple devices at once
- Easy intuitive user-friendly interface
- Open Source

Other Android Fileshare Options:

- KDEConnect
kdeconnect.kde.org/
- (Also requires Local Network)

- Nextcloud Files
nextcloud.com/files/
- Similar to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
- Can password protect files/folders
- Can set expiration on file/folder shares

LocalSend is easier to use than KDEConnect, but file share is all it does. KDEConnect is still great for sending text messages from you laptop through your phone, sharing your clipboard, and for controlling slideshow presentations from your phone.

For personal file transfer bewteen your phone and your Linux computer, the traditional SFTP transfer is still more convienent as it integrates right into some file browsers, such as Material Files.

# Wirelessly Transfer Files Btwn DeGoogled Phone and Laptop

You can use the "Material Files" app to transfer files back and forth between your Android phone, and your Linux computer, using your phone hotspot

Step 1. Install and set up SFTP on your Linux computer as described in this 👉 post:

Step 2: If you haven't already done so, go install the F-Droid app store by installing the APK from F-Droid.org.

Step 3. Install Material Files from F-Droid.

Step 4. Open Material Files and add your laptop connection. (Both must be on the same network)

a. Tap the 3-bar menu

b. Tap "+ Add storage.."

c. Tap "SFTP server"

d. Hostname is the IP address of your laptop. Type "ifconfig" or "ip a" in a terminal to get this.

e. Path should be / if you want
to access removable media,
which will be in the /media
folder on Debian based distros

f. Password and Username are
the sftp username and
password you set up in
Step 1

g. Tap "Connect and Add" to add
connection to the 3-bar menu.

Install ssh

1. Install ssh

shell sudo apt install ssh
2. Add these lines to the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file: (NOT ssh_config)

Match group sftp ChrootDirectory /home X11Forwarding no AllowTcpForwarding no ForceCommand internal-sftp

CAUTION: Set ChrootDirectory to "/ " if you want to access the /media folder for external mounted mediain adition to /home, but this exposes you entire system.

3. Create an sftp user's group. I use "Users and Groups" for this. The program name is users-admin and you get that by installing gnome-system-tools

4. Add your user to the sftp user group. Once again, I use "Users and Groups"

5. Get the IP address for computer running SFTP server. You can get this with "ifconfig" or "ip addr" commands.

6. Connect using IP address as hostname, and login with the username/password of account you added to the sftp user group.

Use "sftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" in the "Files" app to connect, where x's are IP address.
